AI security specialist SANDS Lab (KOSDAQ 411080, CEO Kim Ki-hong) announced on the 15th that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) had granted patents for three security technologies developed by the company.
The patents center on AI-based security automation: automated malware analysis, real-time delivery of analysis in natural language, and automatic generation of natural-language security reports. They notably include technology combining CTI analysis with generative AI such as LLMs, which have recently attracted attention in the security industry.
The three U.S. patents cover technology for identifying and providing attack technique and attack group identifiers in webpage HTML files [US18/132,951]; technology for providing cyber threat analysis results as real-time natural-language feeds [US18/138,447]; and technology for analyzing malicious behavior based on assembly code and automatically generating natural-language reports of the results [US18/235,776].
In particular, the automated natural-language reporting technology uses large language models (LLMs) to interpret threat information in natural language and output it as a report. AI automatically performs the security report analysis and writing previously done manually, improving both operational efficiency and accuracy. The technology is increasingly becoming a core element of security operations automation.
SANDS Lab is registering these overseas patents to secure foundational technologies capable of fully automating the entire security operations lifecycle, from cyber threat detection and analysis to response and reporting. As it expands into markets such as the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia using these technologies, the patents can provide an advantage in licensing revenue, technology protection and negotiations.
In the CTI (cyber threat intelligence) industry served by SANDS Lab, patents for analysis, automation and natural-language report generation encompass specific process flows and functions. If competitors adopt similar technologies or commercialize them, the patents make it possible to promptly file infringement suits or issue warnings restricting use, creating a barrier to further market entry.
CEO Kim Ki-hong said, “The registration of these three patents means that SANDS Lab’s next-generation generative AI security technology has received recognition for its industrial utility from the authoritative U.S. government.” He added, “By building a global patent barrier, we will focus on securing the independence and defensive strength of Korean security technology, while accelerating expansion in conjunction with our international strategy for markets such as North America and Japan.”
