AI security specialist SANDS Lab (CEO Kim Ki-hong) announced that it recently obtained Intellectual Property Management Certification from the Korean Intellectual Property Office. The certification is valid for four years, from 2025 to 2029.

Intellectual Property (IP) Management Certification recognizes companies that systematically manage and commercialize intellectual property, including patents, designs, trademarks and trade secrets. Certification assesses whether companies actively use their IP to generate revenue and strengthen competitiveness.

SANDS Lab has consistently pursued an IP-based patent portfolio strategy by independently developing innovative AI technologies, including deepfake and IoT detection and malware prediction. As a result, it currently has approximately 200 technology patents registered or pending in Korea and overseas in the United States, achieving an industry-leading IP portfolio.

Among the ten assessment categories, SANDS Lab received the highest ratings for sales of products using IP rights, R&D personnel and expenditure, the number of domestic and overseas industrial property rights, and promotion of employee inventions. These results appear to reflect its substantial R&D investment and continued technological innovation, which have enabled it to commercialize numerous IP assets in products and connect them to sales.

The certification entitles SANDS Lab to reduced annual patent registration fees and priority patent examination during its validity period. A company representative explained that accelerating R&D enables the company to establish technological competitiveness more quickly, making it easier to build a differentiated technology IP portfolio.

CEO Kim Ki-hong said, “We have focused on building a strong foundation of core technologies to lead next-generation markets, investing approximately KRW 1.5 billion in R&D every year—a high level relative to our company’s size.” He added, “Beyond gaining recognition for our technology at home and abroad, we intend to become the Korean company with the largest AI security technology IP portfolio in the near future.”
