AI-based cyber threat intelligence (CTI) specialist SANDS Lab (KOSDAQ 411080, CEO Kim Ki-hong) announced on the 29th that it signed a research cooperation agreement with Singapore’s DSO National Laboratories to develop malware analysis tools and services.
DSO is Singapore’s largest defense science R&D organization, with a core mission of developing technological solutions to strengthen national security. SANDS Lab is the first Korean company to conduct advanced cybersecurity research with DSO, aimed at technologies that effectively detect emerging threats.
During a visit to Singapore on the 22nd, SANDS Lab demonstrated tools and services for malware analysis, network-based threat analysis, and command and control using its proprietary technology, infrastructure and datasets.
The SANDS Lab delegation, composed of hands-on researchers, held a seminar for DSO researchers introducing CTX, its AI technologies and development roadmap, and cybersecurity-specific AI and LLM technology, followed by technical discussions on joint research topics.
They discussed in depth how to analyze and detect sophisticated malware equipped with the latest technologies used in APT attacks, agreeing to jointly develop advanced analysis and detection techniques based on those discussions.
The collaboration grew out of a relationship formed at AVAR2022, where SANDS Lab and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) presented cybersecurity AI dataset results, and has been prepared as a follow-up project.
After an extensive mutual validation process based on SANDS Lab’s foundational technology and analysis data, the collaboration is moving forward on the basis of strong technical trust with DSO.
By testing and optimizing its independently developed cybersecurity technology directly in DSO’s local environment, SANDS Lab also sees opportunities to open locally tailored sales channels. This differs from simply applying products designed for Korea to global markets.
CEO Kim Ki-hong said, “We expect this joint research to contribute significantly to the development of cyber threat response technologies in both countries. As digital transformation accelerates in Southeast Asia, the immediate security priority is technology adoption. We will develop that market through a new business model of exporting cybersecurity technology.”
